IMPROVING THE STUDENTS WRITING ABILITY BY USINGTHINKPAIRSHARE TECHNIQUE IN PROCEDURE TEXT AT AKBARA POLYTECHNIC

Writing is one of the difficult skills for the students, even the college students. Nevertheless, it has been learned at Junior High Level. Many students found that themajor problems they faced lack of grammar and vocabulary. To solve the problem, oneofthe techniques that can be used is Think Pair Share. Think Pair Share is oneofcooperative learning methods which is implemented on teams or groups. This studywasconducted at first year of Students at College Level which is consisted of 20 students. This study used classroom action research in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The instruments used to collect data observationchecklists, interview, questionnaire and test. Based on the findings, this research showedthat Think Pair Share technique was successful to help in improving and developingthestudents‟ ideas in writing procedure text. The result shows that only 35%or 7 studentspass the minimum criteria in Cycle 1 then it improves to 100% or 20 students pass theminimum criteria in Cycle 2
